Dunne & Raby sont un duo de designers britanniques, Anthony Dunne et Fiona Raby, pionniers du design critique et du design spéculatif. Leur travail explore comment le design peut questionner les implications sociales, culturelles et éthiques des technologies émergentes, en proposant des scénarios provocateurs et fictifs plutôt que des solutions pratiques. Ils ont enseigné au Royal College of Art de Londres et publié des ouvrages influents comme "Speculative Everything" (2013), qui pose les bases de leur approche : utiliser le design pour imaginer des futurs alternatifs et stimuler le débat. Leur approche est souvent décrite comme "design as critique", où l’objet ou le concept n’est pas destiné à être produit, mais à faire réfléchir. Ils présenteront notamment leur dernier ouvrage, Not Here, Not Now publié en 2025.
Fiona Raby est University Professor of Design and Social Inquiry à The New School / Parsons School of Design à New York (États-Unis), et également Fellow du Graduate Institute for Design, Ethnography and Social Thought (GIDEST).
Anthony Dunne est Professor of Design and Emerging Technology et University Professor of Design and Social Inquiry à The New School / Parsons School of Design à New York (États-Unis). Il est également Fellow du Graduate Institute for Design, Ethnography and Social Thought (GIDEST) au sein de la même université. Tous deux co-dirigent le Designed Realities Lab à The New School et enseignent ensemble dans ce cadre depuis 2016.
Le duo conserve aussi leur activité de studio de design indépendant sous le nom Dunne & Raby.
En amont de cette conférence publique, un échange entre Dunne & Raby et les doctorant•es SACRe est programmé à partir de 15h, à l'École des Arts Décoratifs (EnsadLab, salle 308).

Dunne & Raby are a British design duo composed of Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby, pioneers of critical and speculative design. Their work explores how design can question the social, cultural, and ethical implications of emerging technologies by proposing provocative and fictional scenarios rather than practical solutions. They previously taught at the Royal College of Art in London and published influential books such as Speculative Everything (2013), which laid the foundations of their approach: using design to imagine alternative futures and stimulate debate. Their practice is often described as “design as critique,” where the object or concept is not intended for production, but rather to provoke reflection. During the event, they will notably present their latest book, Not Here, Not Now, published in 2025.
